"Understanding and Responding to Crime and the Elderly"
Elderly people are often victims of certian crimes and may be especially targetted by offenders. Older people may feel more vunerable and less able to deal with the consequences of victimisation and are often reluctant to report crimes against them to police. The elderly are also more fearful of crime than others in the community and require different responses from police, social welfare and other agencies. The objective of this symposium is to improve our understanding of this problem, and to discuss how the community, the elderly and the relevant agencies may prevent crime amongst the elderly.
This symposium, brings together the elderly, Police, Social Welfare Department, and academics to discuss and address the problem in Hong Kong.
