Psychological Criminology
Institute of Criminology
Cambridge University
In the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development,
400 London males have been followed up from age 8 to age 46. This paper
reviews results obtained on criminal careers of the males and their family
members, and on childhood risk factors (the most important of which were:
hyperactivity, low intelligence/attainment, family criminality, family
poverty and poor child-rearing). It also reviews antisocial behaviour associated
with offending at different ages, the effects of life events, and policy
implications.
