"The Development of Offending and Antisocial Behaviour from Childhood to Adulthood"

by

Professor David Farrington
Psychological Criminology
Institute of Criminology
Cambridge University

In the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development, 400 London males have been followed up from age 8 to age 46. This paper reviews results obtained on criminal careers of the males and their family members, and on childhood risk factors (the most important of which were: hyperactivity, low intelligence/attainment, family criminality, family poverty and poor child-rearing). It also reviews antisocial behaviour associated with offending at different ages, the effects of life events, and policy implications.
